Arnold Kurt Meinel was born in Erlbach in 1897. He studied there with Gustav Uebel, worked as a journeyman with Hornsteiner in Berlin and Eduard Tauscher in Erlbach, among others. He started his own business in Erlbach in 1922 and built good instruments according to the old masters. 
 
The instrument shown here was probably built in the 1930s and stands out for its wonderfully flamed onepiece back. The amber lacquer is very well preserved.
