Very well preserved violin by Johann Gottlob Pfretzschner from 1797. He was born in Markneukirchen in 1753 and, like many Pfretzschner of this generation, learned the profession of violin making. According to Lütgendorff, he was probably the most skilled of his family. He originally built a kind of stainer model and later on he was one of the first Vogtlanders who tried to imitate the Stradivari model with understanding. The snail was usually quite small with a long groove.
